Dinosaur love.
Orion's fascination with dinosaurs continues to grow and his knowledge keeps expanding. Today during supper he kept sharing random dinosaur facts with me. He told us that Triceratops is one of the biggest dinosaurs and eats lots of plants. Of course these factoids were shared between the random episodes of fascination at the spork he was using to eat. Either way, I was very impressed by him, which is really nothing new. His obsession with Dinosaur Train has not yet subsided and he can now name a lot of the dinosaurs before the show tells him what they are. He's incredibly intelligent and it just blows me away. This is definitely one proud momma.

Rockets, Robots, and R-electricity
Ok, so the title is lame...or sounds like Scooby-doo. Don't judge! Anyway, last weekend we had the opportunity to take Orion to the Air & Space Museum to see their temporary Robots exhibit. I got there and while I was excited I really expected to see a few pieces from the "Robots" movie (since that was what was advertised) and maybe a few little gadgets and gizmos but I was incredibly impressed. They did have life-sized replicas of the different characters
They had areas for Orion to build his own robot and a few on display to show how they could work. And if that wasn't enough....they also had an area that was showing off famous robots through history.
And of course we got to check out all the different airplanes, helicopters, and rockets that are always housed at the museum.....
along with different concept art from the creation of the movie

Including a fan favorite!!!
Orion thought it was pretty awesome...but I think that daddy was just as impressed!
We also got to see a display of some awesome electrical tricks and learned quite a bit.
After this trip we also took the time to go to the Comic Book store and spent the day hanging out together. It was a pretty spectacular day full of all sorts of geekery. Sometimes it's easy to see just how lucky we are.

Dinosaur Train
Orion's newest obsession is with a show called "Dinosaur Train." Honestly, kid shows tend to grind on my nerves pretty quickly, yet this one is one that I can't help but actually enjoy. The stories are cute and short (each 20ish minute episode usually has 2 full stories in it) so it keeps his attention, and he is actually learning about different parts of science. He is learning about the different kinds of dinosaurs and their features, the type of foods that dinosaurs ate, the different "ages" of dinosaurs (Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous), a one episode taught him about the steam engine of the train and how it worked. He has started asking questions about what kinds of food we eat (do we eat fish mom?) and randomly tells me that he "has a hypothesis" when he is thinking about something. That's a pretty stellar vocabulary boost for a 3-year-old I would say. Of course there are little songs and dances, and I'm sure in a bad mood even Buddy could drive a person crazy....but I definitely give this show 2 thumbs up, and I know Orion would do the same. On top of that, there are 40 episodes available on Netflix AND a mobile app available for pretty much everything. If you have a kiddo that likes dinosaurs or trains, or you're just sick of listening to Barney for the 27th time this week, check it out!!

Welcome to 2013
It's hard to believe that another year has come and gone. We celebrated yesterday by going to the zoo and seeing a ball drop at noon. Orion thought it was pretty awesome. Today has been incredibly uneventful and I think we are all Ok with that. We have just hung out around the house, relaxing, playing, and watching movies. Tomorrow we get back on schedule for a while. It's been a nice little break. I'm excited to see what the next year brings for Orion. Before I know it he will be turning 4. I'm sure the next year will hold many adventures. I can't wait to see what they may be.

TMNT Love
I have to share this story before I forget completely! Yesterday Orion got a kid's meal from an unnamed, horribly unhealthy, fast food joint. The toy that was in his meal is always of interest to him, at least temporarily, however this particular time they contained Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle toys. He has had a slight obsession with the TMNT movie recently so it seemed like a very fitting toy for him. He opened his meal and pulled out the toy and saw the bright orange mask on his turtle. In all manner of seriousness he looked at me and says "Mommy, why did they give me Mikey? I wanted Ralph!" I was so ridiculously proud that I almost cried. My 3 year old is starting to know the heroes of my childhood and I couldn't be more thrilled.
